Today we are introducing another popular drone with camera. The drones with cameras are especially popular among beginners and professional aerial photographers. Because they have proven to be very useful in the field of law enforcement, business world and even agriculture! However, in this article, we will talk about GoolRC X8HG review and what makes it popular among beginners. If you are looking for a cheap priced drones with HD camera that will keep you company, then I would recommend you to check out the X12 Drone (See Price) and IN 1802 Drone (See Price).
The GoolRC X8HG drone is nowhere that close to modern quadcopters under $100. That is, my friend, because of its unique mounted camera and design style that sets it apart from competitors. Without further ado, let’s get the ball rolling and find out if this drone is the best drone with camera for you.
Design & Appearance
First and foremost, the GoolRC X8HG drone appears to have similar design style to Phantom 3 (See Price). The only difference is that the color are reversed with main body color red and strips encased in bright sliver color. It comes with landing legs to provide support for gentle lands. Furthermore, it is essential feature to have since it comes with a mounted action camera. The landing legs helps keeps the dust and tiny particles from touching internal components. Thus, improving its durability and reduces the likelihood of having to maintain it.
The build quality of GooLRC X8HG drone takes advantage of modern ABS plastic that is much durable than standard toy-grade plastic. This material ensure extra layer of protection and provides additional armor to the hull, making it tough to break. Moreover, the drone comes with propeller guards which you can add to protect the propellers. We only recommend doing this if you have never flown a drone before. Because it is likely you will make few mistakes on the first flight session. But as you become skilled at flying, you won’t need to use guards.
That is because the guards have tendency to add extra weight which slows down the drone. But not by too much that the GoolRC X8HG drone still can perform exceptionally well. Furthermore, the arms are outfitted with brushless motors that delivers powerful propulsion for speed. Not only it makes the drone agile, it reduces the amount of power that it draws from the battery. Which means majority of the time, battery will be focused on keeping the drone running for as long as it can.
A battery on average delivers 8 minutes according to the product page. But it is possible to extend the flight time if you chose to purchase additional batteries that are upgraded to 2200mAh Li-Po capacity. Which means a single battery will give you at least 10 minutes of flight time up to a total of 30 minutes. It is a total steal at its price value.
The GoolRC X8HG comes with an incredible and powerful 8MP action camera. It is manufactured by SYMA, a Chinese-based company that is also well know for producing drones. But the fact that the camera is so powerful with a 8MP puts most of the drones in the same price range to shame. Majority of the drones that are sold under $200 usually have cameras between 2MP to 5MP. But at this price range, it does says alot about the GooLRC X8HG drone!
The action camera is capable of taking stills and recording videos on an impressive 1080p HD at 30 FPS. However, it doesn’t have 3-axis gimbal so the camera will tilt as you move the drone in a direction. It is not perfect, though it is very capable of producing nice aerial photography. Especially for those beginners who wants to have a drone that can capture quality stills and to develop their skill.
Lastly, the control range is very limited and there is no FPV mode option. So if you wanted to see the video, you will have to insert the memory card on your computer to view them. Which is really inconvenience because you would want to be able to see video in real time, right? Let’s alone that makes up for its incredible camera quality at its price range.
Perhaps one of the main factor in the shopping decision is the performance of drone. Normal questions is like asking how well does it fly and is it easy to control? Fortunately, the drones has become easier and easier to fly over the time. The GoolRC X8HG is among one of the easiest drone with action camera. It is packed with powerful propulsion that helps it maintain its controls. Furthermore, it comes with user-friendly features like Headless Mode and Altitude Hold Mode.
Because it uses brushless motors, it delivers most of the power toward keeping the drone stable and smooth for best flight experience. Not to forget to mention that the GoolRC X8HG comes with an upgraded 6-axis gyro stabilization for improved control and stability. Lastly, it can perform 360-degree flips to impress bystanders. There are always thing to do to keep you company with this mid-sized red copter.
Verdict of GoolRC X8HG
The GoolRC X8HG or Syma X8HG, whichever you call it, in our opinion is an excellent quadcopter. It doesn’t have a lot of features because you can’t use smartphone to view the camera in real time. Therefore, majority of the features are constrained by what is included on the remote controller. We were a little bit disappointed to learn that viewing camera in real time was not possible.
But that shouldn’t set your decision back if you truly want to learn how to capture aerial photography. You will have to develop visual positioning skill and rely on that skill to capture quality aerial shots. That being said, this quadcopter has incredible action camera at an affordable price which surprised us. In the end, it is a decent quadcopter that will keep beginners, hobbyists and even your kids entertained. We think it is a drone that you will truly enjoy. You can grab it here for just under $150.
