If you are like me who wear glasses. It can be quite a bit of pain when it comes to wearing the FPV goggles. Usually, you will need to get a diopter lens for the FPV goggles to see them. But, when you take off the goggles, you need to search around for your glasses before you can see again. It isn’t an ideal choice for the glasses wearer. The solution? Wear contact lenses, but it isn’t practical for everyone. So, the last solution you will want to find is an oversized FPV goggle and wear your glasses uncomfortable. At least, this was a case until the introduction of FXT Viper goggles. It is built and designed to be worn with glasses. In our FXT Viper Goggles review, we will be looking at this headset to check if they are any good.

Why Should You Get The FXT Viper Goggles?

If you are a glasses wearer, then you should consider getting the FXT Viper Goggles. They are one of the first goggles that are designed to be comfortably worn with your glasses on. The rubber face guard does a good job of blocking the light. Furthermore, the refraction system makes the FPV screen bigger while minimizing eye strain. Apart from that goggles being a suitable option for the glasses wearers. The rest of the FPV goggles stands to make an excellent competitor thanks great picture, reception, and features that you will expect from a VR headset.

Plus, the ability to convert the goggles to a standalone monitor is an amazing feature if you plan to fly with friends. Not only the FPV goggles are completely new in this field of a hobby. They are sold at a great and affordable price. But, the worst part about FXT Viper Goggles is that they are bigger than Fat Shark FPV goggles. But, then again you can’t wear your glasses with a pair of Fat Shark FPV goggles which makes it even more inconvenient.

Design Quality

The main feature of FXT Viper Goggles is that they are a fancy enclosure that you add regular FPV monitor onto. What makes these goggles very easy to convert between a goggle and monitor mode in mere seconds. All of the electronics are already built in the monitor. While the goggles are made of plastic, foam, and mirrors. But there is more to this than having a modular design which means the FXT can expand with new and better screens in the future that you can install onto.

FXT Viper Goggles Front Review

The FXT Viper Goggles is fairly average in terms of delivering resolution size at  800 * 400 pixels. But it is reasonable when you consider its overall price. The latency is good and the built-in menu system is easy to navigate thanks to the 4-ways joystick on the back of the screen. Even more so, the monitor has a built-in DVR with an HDMI input that lets you use these goggles to practice on flight simulators. Not to forget to mention that the goggles come with built-in speakers if that is what you are also looking for.

A few ways that FXT made to reduce the eye strain and enhance immersion, they added a refraction system that increases the distance between your eyes and the goggles and the lenses. Plus, it helps keep the center of gravity closer to your head. Which gives a huge field of view that lets you see more within the same screen. Overall, the FXT Viper Goggles operates great and provides great-looking images,

Ergonomics and Comfort

Like I mentioned previously at the beginning of FXT Viper Goggles review that it is wearable for people who wear glasses is the main selling point. The FXT Viper Goggles do live up to its name, but I will go as far as saying that this is one of the most comfortable FPV goggles. FXT uses foam that provides comfort around the headband. For the first time users, it might be a little strange since you wear them higher than other FPV goggles. But after adjusting the three-point head strap, they can be easily worn for hours.

Additionally, the rubber eye guards wrap around your face. If you are a glasses wearer, they will wrap around your glasses without any issues. This is the magic engineering of FXT design. Since the weight of FPV goggles sits on your forehead, the rubber area doesn’t take any weight so it wraps around your face and blocks most of the light. While only a little amount of light gets through. The periscope design and refraction systems mitigate distracting glares.

Range and Reception

The FXT Viper Goggles comes with stock antennas which is a big letdown for me. In the box, you will get linear rubber antennas. They do work great at close range, however, if you fly over 150 meters far. You will start to notice the signal breakup. While the goggles have a true diversity receiver, it is a real shame because it would be nice to have an omnidirectional antenna and directional antenna to expand the signal range. This wouldn’t cost too much to upgrade the FXT Viper Goggles.

FXT Viper Goggles Screen

With a high-quality antenna, the reception of these goggles is good thanks to diversity receivers built-in the screen. Initially, you might think that the images above the Viper goggles only has one receiver, but the second one is built on the back of the PCB. Compared to other FPV goggles, the FXT Viper Goggles holds up on its own just as well in terms of reception. So, there is nothing to be worried about. Since the monitor is modular itself, I would expect FXT to release firmware updates and possibly a new monitor module that you can snap on.

Bottom Line

Finally, we have come to the bottom line of the FXT Viper Goggles review. Whether you are a glasses wearer or not, this is a great FPV goggle that you should consider. They come with a lot of features and works great. Not to forget to mention that the FXT Viper Goggles is one of the most comfortable FPV headsets to wear. Of course, they are a bit bigger on the side of box goggles. But you get all the comfortability due to its bigger size and it is worth it. Plus, you get a nice carry case to keep them protected wherever you go. If you are a glasses wearer and want to get FPV goggles, go and get yourself a set of FXT Viper Goggles!
