Never mind the fact that DJI hasn’t released any major consumer drones this year, aside from their recently released Osmo Action camera and the Robomaster S1 Tank. The Chinese tech behemoth revealed their latest DJI Mavic Mini drone that fits into their existing drones lineup.
We have already seen the dimensions from the leaked images and more precisely the leaked specifications. However, it is nice to see how the new DJI Mavic Mini drone will fit in terms of size compared to other quadcopters. Instead of flying heavy birds like the Mavic 2 Pro / Mavic 2 Zoom and the Mavic Air.
It makes even more sense to look at the Ryze Tello and the still popular DJI Spark. When the DJI Mavic Mini drone is unfolded, it has approximately the same size as DJI Spark. Although, when you fold the DJI Mavic Mini, it features a package that is much smaller and way lighter. That being said, it only weights 245 grams which makes it a lot easier to take it with you on a trip.
Let’s take a look at how the DJI Mavic Mini compares against other product lineups:
|Mavic Mini||Tello||Spark||Air||Mavic 2|
|Take off weight||245g||80g||300g||430g||907g|
|Max flight time||18 min||13 min||16 min||21 min||31 min|
|Max speed||31 mph||17.9 mph||31 mph||42.5 mph||44.7 mph|
|Camera||12MP, 1/2.3″ CMOS||5MP||12MP, 1/2.3″ CMOS||12MP, 1/2.3″ CMOS||20MP, 1/2.3″ CMOS|
|Video||4K @ 30fps||720p||1080p||4K @ 30fps||4K @ 30fps|
|Obstacle sensing||Forward, downward||n/a||Forward||Forward, backward||Forward, backward, sideways, upward, downward|
The image as shown earlier isn’t likely to be the final stage of Mavic Mini drone. It is very likely that they are merely a prototype that will require testing and approvals before we can ever get our hands on it. Thus, when the DJI Mavic Mini folds, it should become a package that you can easily slip it into your travel case or pocket just like its big brothers, the Mavic Air and Mavic 2.
