DJI Phantom 5 Rumors: What Features Will It Include?

There are so many rumors going on about the upcoming DJI Phantom 5 that will have awesome features. Yet, we don’t know what DJI has in their mind for the brand new Phantom 5 drone. So, we have some insights based on what we have seen and what we know about this brand new drone. If you don’t want to wait for the upcoming Phantom 5 drone, take a look at the DJI’s latest released Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

First of all, we will go through the features that we are sure will be included in the Phantom 5 drone. Then at the end of the article, we will include fun things that we would like to see them add in the next release. Below are the six changes that are highly likely to be incorporated into the Phantom 5 drone. See the changes for yourself and decide if it is worth getting the Phantom 5 quadcopter on the launch date.

DJI Phantom 5 Drone Rumors

Six Likely Improvements

The first improvement that we will see on the upcoming Phantom 5 drone is obviously longer flight time. Currently the Phantom 4 Pro can fly for up to 30 minutes. I expect the Phantom 5 drone to be able to fly up to between 35 and 38 minutes on a single battery charge.

Secondly, the brand new Phantom 5 drone will have a longer control distance. As of now, the Mavic 2 drone has a maximum control distance up to 8,000 meters or 5 miles. I expect that the Phantom 5 drone has at least a control distance of 8,000 meters or even potentially up to 10,000 meters. While it is possible not to exceed the advertised 7,000 meters, the drone will be able to boast a strong signal for reliable flight experience.

Third, the Phantom 5 drone will have come with a better and powerful camera. The Inspire 2 features a camera that is capable of producing 5KUHD resolution footage. But I will be surprised if the Phantom 5 drone doesn’t follow the suit with an upgraded camera. While it is more than likely that this drone will come with interchangeable lenses. Check out the leaked image below.

The recent partnership with Hasselblad, it is possible that DJI is looking to get into the lens business. So, why don’t the Phantom 5 drone comes with lenses that can be easily swapped out to improve the image quality on a higher end optics or lower f/number for twilight flights? We also expect the drone to feature zoom lens option.

Fourth, the Phantom 5 drone design will be rainproof. I would absolutely love to say that this drone is going to be waterproof. But the likelihood of that going to happen isn’t possible as being able to fly your Phantom 4 Pro in rain or snow. The introduction of IP43 splash water resistance in DJI’s Matrice lineup might make their way to the Phantom series. The motors shown in the leaked image looks different which might indicate that they are rainproof.

Fifth, the Phantom 5 drone will be much more durable than its predecessors. From the look of it, we expect that the Phantom 5 drone to be more durable. That means it will be designed to withstand impact and survive the falls with relative ease. We are hoping that it will somehow match the durability of popular Mavic 2 drone. If DJI actually succeeds in designing Phantom 5 drone that can handle impacts and doesn’t chip apart that easily, it will be the clear winner for professional aerial photographers and beginners.

And finally, the Phantom 5 drone will be far quieter. Grabbing the attention and having birds flocking near your drone isn’t always a pleasant experience. Which is why DJI have deployed quieter-noise propellers on their latest drones to minimize intrusion for a better flight experience. We expect that Phantom 5 drone will be quieter compared to Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic Pro.

What Else Does Phantom 5 Have to Offer?

We know that DJI has been consistent with improving the flight time, quality of the camera, control range, and obviously new features. So, we expect most of the features, if not all, to be included in the upcoming Phantom 5 drone. Although, it is important to remind that DJI doesn’t have a history of resting on their laurels. Thus, it is possible that there will be some surprises on the way. Coming up next is Aerofly Drones dream list and I would love to have one of these features incorporated into the Phantom 5 drone.

1. Removable Camera

The quality of the cameras mounted on the Phantom 5 drone is really good. But it would be an absolutely great feature to have a removable camera for once and all. Being able to remove the camera will allow you to upgrade or replace it with ease. Even better, you can swap it out with a thermal camera without having to make a big fuss out of it.

2. Retractable Legs

So, why don’t Phantom 5 drone comes with retractable legs? If it comes with retractable legs that stay out of the camera’s point of view. You can easily have a gimbal that rotates in any direction and put you on a shorter focal length lens. That being said, the legs can be easily folded onto the drone to create a complete and immersive aerial experience for drone photographers.

3. Higher Flying Speed

The brand new Phantom 5 drone should be able to achieve higher maximum flying speed. I would like to see it go up to between 50 to 55 miles per hour. So, why not!?

4. FPV Camera

This would be an awesome feature that provides lag-free real-time video for the pilot to fly the drone with an FPV headset. That feature will allow the second cameraman to operate the camera and gimbal. Currently, this is possible on Inspire 2 drone. So, we think it possible that the Phantom 5 drone will follow the same step, hopefully!

5. Flying Laser Beams

Okay, seriously. I want laser beams mounted on the drone and watch it wreak havoc wherever I fly it. Or maybe not, at least you will have cats chasing the laser beams for giggles. Until the Phantom 5 drone comes out, you will have to settle for this fricken awesome, but absolutely laserless Phantom 4 Pro quadcopter.
