Another popular drones with long flight time is the DJI Mavic Pro. It is the choice of professionals and beginners due to its compact and portable design. This drone features foldable motor arms which you can unfold and fold to save up space. Not only it is foldable, it is very lightweight up to 1.62 pounds. Which makes it an awesome drone to take for traveling around the world with you.

Cameras & Specifications

The DJI Mavic Pro comes with a few drawbacks. While it doesn’t exactly sports powerful camera that Phantom 4 Pro and Inspire 2 has. It is equipped with a 3-axis gimbal systems and 12MP camera. However, it does a great job capturing beautiful aerial views of stills and videos. Many YouTubers and some professionals prefers Mavic Pro over big birds because of its size and how easy it is to carry.

Due to its small portable size, it makes an incredible drone to maneuver in small areas such as inside the home and close quarters. The DJI Mavic Pro is armed with two directional obstacle avoidance detection systems. One on the front and others on its bottom. Pilots still have to be wary of flying it in the rear and sides since Mavic Pro can’t “see” it.

A single battery gives you around 27 minutes of flight time. However, you will have the option to choose the Platinum version of Mavic Pro which has a flight time of 30 minutes. It is around $250 to $300 more expensive than original. The rest is the same, except for quieter propellers noise and improved flight time.

Overall, the DJI Mavic Pro is a great steal for its portable size and great camera quality. With the right tools to edit the pictures and videos, you can easily transform them into masterpieces!

Key Specs

  • Camera Resolution: 12MP JPEG + RAW Format
  • Video Resolution: 4K @ 30 FPS
  • Max Flight Time: 27 Minutes / 30 Minutes (Platinum Only)
  • Max Speed: 40 mph
  • Notable Attributes: Foldable, Compact and Portable

Autel X-Star Premium

× Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com (Amazon.in, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, etc) at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.

The Autel X-Star Premium is another serious contender against popular DJI drones. If you haven’t heard of Autel Robotics before, you are missing out on the great offers they have on this big orange bird. And did I mentioned that they have the reputation for excellent customer services? They are well known for being supportive and will do everything to resolve any issues that you might have. Whether it is gimbal camera issues, damages or general questions, they answer right away and their services are quite fast compared to DJI. The Autel X-Star Premium may look similar to DJI Phantom 4 Pro in terms of design. But I assure you it is different.

Camera & Specifications

Underneath the drone is a quick-release 3-axis camera that you can easily switch to a better camera or thermal vision. The drone comes with a 64GB micro SD card included which is a nice additional bonus to jumpstart your aerial photography. Furthermore, the Autel X-Star Premium is designed to be splash-proof.

Unlike the DJI Phantom 4 Pro, the Autel X-Star Premium drone can safely enter the water and not suffer any damage to the electronics. This easily makes the drone a great choice for filming water sports such as surfing, jet skiing and more. Combined with GPS and GLONASS positoning systems, it provides the Autel X-Star incredible stability. The relatively ease of controls is a popular choice among beginners who wants to learn how to fly a drone. Autel X-Star Premium drone is a no exception.

Although, a single battery gives this drone a flight time of 25 minutes. It is just only two minutes shorter than DJI Mavic Pro. But that makes up for the powerful 12MP 1.2/3-inch CMOS sensor that captures images at stunning 4K / 40 FPS. The battery on the other hand, is slightly expensive than Phantom 4 Pro and DJI Mavic Pro. By all the means, the Autel X-Star Premium is still a great drone with long flight time.

Key Specs

  • Camera Resolution: 12 MP JPEG + RAW Format
  • Video Resolution: 4K @ 40 FPS
  • Max Flight Time: 25 minutes
  • Max Speed: 33 mph

Typhoon H Pro

Last Amazon price update was: April 26, 2024 10:14 am
× Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com (Amazon.in, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, etc) at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.

Yuneec has been around since 1999 and is a pioneer in electric aviation. Today they are making more than one million units per year and they are not going away anywhere yet. Their Typhoon H Pro is packed with powerful features and quality that is worthy enough to check out.

It even comes with a built-in screen remote controller. So, there is no need for you to use your smartphone or tablets to be able to see video on first person view. Not just only you can easily view, the drone comes in a custom designed hard case. The foam inside the case keeps your drone and accessories at room temperature and protects them from damage during transportation. This is a drone that is overlooked often but the quality and the package deal that is has to offer is too good to pass.

Cameras and Specifications

The Yuneec Typhoon H Pro is designed to be very different than its counterpart. In fact, it is called a hexacopter because it has six motor arms. This is beneficial for two reasons, improved stability and better capability to fly at higher altitude. If one of the motor arm stops working for whoever reason, it won’t drop out of the sky. Instead, the other five motor arms will continue to work and it will still fly perfectly fine. It is one of the clear advantage that Typhoon H Pro has over the popular quadcopters.

Moreover, it is equipped with obstacle avoidance detection system and a 12MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor camera. The camera is rotable in 360-degree direction allowing full aerial view at any points you want to see. All of these features are included with the basic bundle. However, you will have the option to purchase a hexacopter with RealSense Technology. It is a stand alone camera that you can connect to your laptop or computer. The RealSense camera can be used for gesture mode, gaming and even 3D scanning.

Flight time-wise, a single battery gives you an average of 25 minutes. But most of the time you will probably get 20 to 22 minutes out of it. Depending on the modules, payload and how aggressive you are flying. But also because it is a hexacopter, it requires more power to sustain six motor arms compared to quadcopters. So to put this in comparison, the Typhoon H pro is quite a formidable drone for beginners and professionals.

Key Specs

  • Camera Resolution: 12MP  JPEG + RAW Format
  • Video Resolution: 4K at 30 FPS
  • Max Flight Time: 25 minutes
  • Max Speed: 43.5 mph
  • Notable Attributes: Built-In FPV Screen, Six Motor Arms, Incredible Stability

DJI Mavic Air is the lite version of its big sibling, Mavic Pro. It made the first debut in early January 2018 to fill in the gap between Spark and Mavic Pro. While it follows the same concept of portability and compact design. DJI took the portability even further by making it smaller while adding even more features to it. They certainly have accomplished the feat of showing that no matter how small the drone is, they can add many features as they want to.

Although the Mavic Air isn’t that deeply popular as Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic Pro. It still serves as a great alternative choice for those who prefer gesture mode and 32 MP panoramic sphere shots. Furthermore, the way Mavic Air is designed to have much more friendly appearance. The Mavic Air is essentially a melting pot of Mavic Pro and Spark.

Cameras and Specifications

Camera-wise, the Mavic Air is capable of capturing images on 12MP 1.2/3-inch CMOS Sensor. Unlike the floppy 3-axis gimbal system that Mavic Pro uses. The camera mounted on the Mavic Air consisted of stabilized gimbal just like you would see on Spark. However, the exception to the Spark is that Mavic Air uses a 3-axis gimbal camera. It has a bitrate of 100 MBPS that makes it the perfect choice for professional aerial videos.

Along with great camera quality, the Mavic Air comes with several upgrades. First, it features three directional obstacle avoidance detection system. As I mentioned previously that Mavic Pro only has two direction. This quadcopter can see front, bottom and rear. Furthermore, it has three different methods you can control it. The most obvious method is remote controller. Secondly, you can choose to fly it via your smartphone. Lastly, if you are in mood for some fun and travel purposes, gesture mode. But the smartphone and gesture modes comes at much limited control range. With remote controller, you can fly it up to 4,000 meters away.

Finally, the Mavic Air features intelligent flight battery that shows the status via LED lights. It is smaller than Mavic Pro, but larger than DJI Spark. A single battery gives the Mavic Air a flight time of 21 minutes. Realistically, you will be able to fly it for up to 18 – 19 minutes at most. Overall the Mavic Air is a good choice for beginners who are tore between Mavic Pro and Spark.

Key Specs

  • Camera Resolution: 12MP  JPEG + RAW Format
  • Video Resolution: 4K at 30 FPS
  • Max Flight Time: 21 Minutes
  • Max Speed: 42.5 mph

Perhaps the most anticipated racer drone is the MJX Bugs 2 Shadow. Many sees it as the spritual successor of MJX Bugs 3 with improved battery life and new features. Although, MJX isn’t a well know manfacuturer, they have the reputation for making quality racing drones. If you are into racing drones, then the MJX Bugs 2 Shadow might be the right pick for you. MJX Bugs 3

× Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com (Amazon.in, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, etc) at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.

The MJX Bugs 3 is a much more popular choice among beginners and experienced RC fans. Mainly for its great package deal and low price tag. Not to forget to mention that it has incredible battery life in the price range. It is certainly an exceptional quadcopter that you won’t normally see anything like that under $100. Likewise, we think the MJX Bugs 3 is a great pick for pilots who prefer to fly around for fun.

Camera & Specifications

First of all, the MJX Bugs 3 comes with an extra battery. Each battery gives you a flight time of 18 minutes, similar to MJX Bugs 2 Shadow. But what makes the MJX Bugs 3 way more popular is its feature that allows you to mount any action camera you want. Have a GoPro HERO5? Done, you can mount on it and transform it into an aerial photography drone.

Furthermore, the MJX Bugs 2’s incredible propulsion force is strong enough to support the payload. It uses four MT1806 1800KV brushless motors that is 10 times more powerful than brushed motors. Thanks to the high speed, it can fly in windy conditions with ease. Moreover, it comes with out of range alarm system. If you fly the drone more than 500 meters away, the transmitter will alarm you that the drone is flying out of range. It is a nice feature to add to the flight navigation safety system.

Basically, the MJX Bugs 2 is the jack of all trades that fills in every role. Racing Drone? Done. Aerial photography? Done. Flying casually? Done. Just keep it in your mind that the action camera isn’t controllable. However, from what I have seen, the MJX Bugs 3 is truly a great cheap alternative choice compared to high-end models. Lastly, their customer services are working hard to ensure that you have the best quality and all the gears you need for MJX Bugs 2. It is overall a great starter drone.

It is everybody’s favorite drone, popular especially with beginners and first-time flyers. This miniature quadcopter only weights 300 grams or 10.58oz, making it the most lightweight starter drone at its price range. However, you will still have to register this drone if you were to fly it. According to the FAA registration requirement that drones weighting above 0.55 lbs or 8.8oz must be registered. Regardless, the registration fee is only $5 and the DJI Spark is packed with features you wouldn’t find on others.

Camera & Specifications

Unlike the DJI Mavic Air and Phantom 3 Pro, the DJI Spark uses two-axis camera gimbal system. This limits the drone ability to point the camera in the direction you want to aim at. However, the camera still captures stills and videos at beautiful 12MP. Even so it is capable of doing, the video recording is capped at 1080p HD. Which is a bit disappointing considering how portable and powerful it can be.

The trade off is that the small size and portable design makes up for its friendly appearance. It makes a great indoor and outdoor activity for casuals and friends who wants to fly it. Just like Mavic Air, you can control the DJI Spark in three different ways: with your hands, smartphone and of course remote controller. However, the max control distance you can fly with the remote controller is 2,000 meters.

A single battery gives you a flight time of 16 minutes. But to take the low battery warning into account, you will be only able to fly it for up to 13 – 14 minutes. I would highly recommend that you purchase few extra batteries to prolong your flight session. If you are not a serious flyer who wants to fly a drone more than few miles. But rather to keep it close and use for short flight distance and selfie, DJI Spark is a solid pick.

Key Specs

  • Camera Resolution: 12 MP

Ryze Tello is a recent released quadcopter under DJI name. It is built by three different companies, Ryze, Intel and DJI which created the first STEM toy drone. After researching about this miniature quadcopter, I thought it is worthy enough to include it in the list. This drone is mainly used for students who are majoring in STEMS. But anyone can learn how to program their own custom flight paths and tricks. Fortunately, it doesn’t matter if you have experience or not in STEM. Coding these custom flight paths and tricks are relatively easy to learn.

Camera & Specifications

This little bird comes with a brand new trick for you to show off. The omnidirectional flips or 8D flips is the latest upgrade that lets the drone perform trick in any direction. Furthermore it is equipped with a powerful 5MP camera capable of capturing beautiful stills and videos on 720p HD. There are quite a few pictures taken with Ryze Tello and the image quality actually speaks for themselves.

Ryze Tello sets themselves apart from most of toy-grade drones with its superior flight time and amazing camera quality. A single battery provides a flight time of 13 mintues. For just a drone alone under $100, it is quite impressive. Moreover, it comes with a nice package which includes propeller guards. And if you need additional batteries, they also have aftermarket support for that.

5 Ways You Can Increase Flight Time

Maximizing your drones’ flight time can be a tough task. Fortunately, there are at least five ways you can do to improve your drones’ flight time. They are very easy to do and require minimum to no experience. It can be done from getting extra batteries to removing addon modules. In this section, I am going to tell you five ways you can do to get the most out of your drones.

Purchase Additional Batteries

First and foremost, a drone can’t fly on empty battery. What you need to do is buy more battery juice. For advanced drones like Phantom 4 Pro (See Price) and Autel X-Star (See Price), these batteries can go for over $100 a piece. On the lower end models like DJI Spark (See Price) and MJX Bugs 3 (See Price), they can go for between $20 to $50.

With extra batteries, you can prolong your drones flight time. Which means you don’t have to end your flight mission earlier. If you need additional times to complete your task or just to get more fun out of you drone. Purchasing additional batteries is the easiest way to start with.

Removing Gears

Secondly, these addon gears such as landing legs and propeller guards adds extra weight. And guess what? These extra weight means the drone have to work harder to maintain stability and support itself. As of a result, working harder drains more power from the battery. That means it only can fly for shorter time than as advertised.

My advice for you is that you should only remove gears if you are experienced enough with the drone. I wouldn’t recommend doing this for beginners. But once you are comfortable enough and can fly the drone with ease. Then I would say, go ahead and get rid of guards and landing legs. You will need to get a bag to keep the screws safe incase you decide to put them back on.

Removing these modules probably will add an extra or two minutes at most. But that depends on how much weight they adds. The heavier they are, the more minutes you get out of it. And vice versa.

Remove Camera

The camera by nature are second heaviest competent of drone. Depending on what type you are, whether you prefer aerial photography or casual flight. Some of the drones have removable gimbal cameras. Unfortunately, there are some drones that have built-in cameras which can’t be removed.

If you truly want to maximize your drones flight time, then you should check whether the drone you have can be removed. Drones like Inspire 2 and Autel X-Star Premium have the options that you can add the camera on or not.

Once you remove the gimbal camera, you will notice an improvement in the drone’s flight time. Particularly because the drone doesn’t need to draw more power to run the camera. So all of the battery goes directly to running the motors. Furthermore, the drone doesn’t have to work harder. Which means it will only require minimum amount of power to sustain its flight.

Fly Gently

Another factor that you can do so to extend the battery life of your drone is fly gently. I have seen and experienced it first hand that if you fly the drone aggressive. It eats up battery quite fast because the drone is working hard to response and reaching the destination where you want it to be.

Especially when you are flying at maximum speed settings and sports mode. The drone basically goes into overdrive mode that requires speeding up the motors to match the speed requirement. This is great for two reasons: getting to the area where you want to be at now. Secondly, to build up resistance against winds.

But when you are flying indoor or when the outside weather conditions is nice. There is no need to turn on the maximum speed. Lets alone that you will want to be able to capture special moments without draining the battery quickly.

Charging Hub

Depending on what type of drones you have. Popular brands such as Phantom 4 Pro and DJI Mavic Pro have their own dedicated charging hub. They are much more effective at charging the battery quicker and reduces the overall waiting time between a single battery.

If you are using the old fashioned way: plug the usb charger and charge the battery. It is not an effective way to do so. Furthermore the USB charger doesn’t comes with the same features that the charging hubs have. Overcharge protection and discharge protection are two main concerns when you are recharging the battery.

So it only makes sense if you get a charging hub. Not only they protect your batteries from the dangers of electrical current, they keep your batteries charged and prepared for your next flight session.

Taking Proper Care of Batteries

The batteries are the main backbone that is what keeps your drones running. Without taking proper care of the batteries, it will not operate at its maximum effectiveness. Regardless the type of batteries that you have, they all should be treated the same and stored at room temperature.

The drones uses electric source to run and that in fact, the Li-Po batteries is one of the source. These Li-Po batteries are quite volatile if not taken with care. The drones with long battery life requires more time to charge and are much heavier than those that have fewer minutes. But they also carry much more power that excites the energy.

Which is why you will see that the batteries on much more advanced drones are equipped with discharge and overcharge protections. These are placed to protect the battery and only charge when it is necessary. Furthermore in cases of electrical shutdown, the batteries will not be affected by these adversarial.

To take a proper care of the batteries, they needs to be stored at room temperature. Storing them in cold room will cause the battery to read it as “dead”. On the other hand, storing them in hot room will cause the battery to charge much slower and drain faster. Ideally, you should be charging them in room that is between 60°F to 70°F.

Another hazard you should also watch out is tiny particles. You wouldn’t want them to enter anywhere near the batteries as it will clog up the electric connectors, impairing their ability to perform effectively. For casual drones, there are dust-proof bag that you can purchase. For more advanced drones, there are caps that you can insert to protect the electrical connectors. DJI Mavic Pro dustproof cap can be bought here and Phantom 4 dustproof caps can be bought too.

Picking Drones With Long Flight Time

When it comes to shopping for the right drones with long flight time. We make it simple and easy to help you pick the best drones with long flight time. Fortunately enough, I own some of these drones and from my experience, they are what I strongly recommend to any shoppers.

If you were to ask me what is the best drones with long flight time. Personally, there are two type of categories as I mentioned previously. For professional drones, my top two choices are the Phantom 4 Pro and DJI Mavic Pro.

Budget-wise, the IN 1802 Drone is my favorite drone for starter. It is still relatively new but I went ahead and got it. I haven’t been disappointed with the quality of IN 1802 drone so far considered how so many features jammed in that mini quadcopter.
